Second Annual David Wheeler SoCal Lawmen Shooting Competition

Ammo: Bring your own. Minimum 180 rounds, full metal jacket. Additional rounds suggested for the Staccato side match. At least 10 rounds per try at the side match (your admission fee includes a try at the Staccato plate match - bring any additional ammo for additional tries at the Staccato).

Welcome to the Los Angeles Police Museum’s 1st annual David Wheeler SoCal Lawmen Shooting Competition - presented to you by Point Blank Enterprises! This will be a 5 stage match with dedicated RO's on each stage. Included in your match fee are five fun stages, lunch, as well as a plate rack side match hosted by Staccato.  There will be a generous prize table as well as a raffle.  Each participant will receive 5 raffle tickets and one chance to test your skills on the plate rack (additional attempts available for purchase).  Over-all winner of the plate rack match will be awarded a Staccato pistol.  Proceeds from the match will be donated to the Los Angeles Police Museum.

All competitors and attendees must be sworn, active duty LEOs.

Main Match is Saturday, October 5th from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm. Match check-in opens at 6:30 am on Saturday.
Staff Shoot is XXXX, October XX, 2024 from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm.

WITHDRAWALS and REFUNDS
Shooters who withdraw BEFORE August 15, 2023 will be issued a refund of their match fee minus a $15 admin fee. Thereafter, there will be an additional $25 charge for the shirt cost. September 1st is the last day to withdraw. After that, we thank you for your generous donation for a good cause!

AWARDS
First, second, and third place awards will be issued by division.

ACCOMMODATIONS
There will be no official match hotel, but there are many accommodation options available nearby.

Match Rules

Competitors for this match will be split into two divisions: Patrol and Elite.  All participants must be currently active sworn LEOs and all firearms used must be approved for duty by their department and the competitor must be authorized to carry said firearm.

We will run a “cold” range.  Gun handling only in designated areas or under the supervision of your RO at the beginning of a stage of fire.  We will observe a “180 degree” rule on the range.  Under no circumstances can your muzzle break the 180, even with your gun at slide lock.  Violation of this or any other safety rule results in an immediate disqualification.

Patrol Division Rules

This division requires the use of a striker fired or DA/SA pistolNo single action pistols allowed.

Competitor equipment must be of the style generally acceptable for patrol work.  No open top holsters allowed.  All DA/SA pistols must start the stage in DA mode and all retention devices must be used at the start of the stage.

Elite Division Rules

Competitors in Elite Division may use single action firearms.  Open top holsters are permitted, but some active retention device such as an ejector port locking mechanism must be used.  No race gun gear or holsters permitted.  Final say on competitor equipment is at the discretion of the Match Director. 

If for any reason your equipment is deemed outside of the boundaries of the rules, at the discretion of the Match Director, you will still be allowed to compete but will be ineligible for prizes.

Prizes

Each division will have first, second, and third place winners who will receive a trophy.  

Winners will get to walk the prize table and select the prize of their choice.  The first place winners from each division will toss a coin to see which one of them gets to walk the prize table and choose first.  We will repeat this process for second and third place winners.  All remaining prizes will be distributed via the raffle.

Raffle

Each registered competitor who completes the match will receive 5 raffle tickets.  Additional tickets will be available for purchase by attendees and competitors.

Plate Rack Side Match Presented by Staccato

We will hold a plate rack side match brought to you by Staccato and SinterFire ammunition.  This match will consist of 6 plates on a plate rack to be shot for time using a Staccato pistol.  The best run out of 2 attempts will be your score.  The pistol and ammunition will be provided, while ammo lasts.  At the end of the day, the individual with the best time will win a Staccato pistol.

Competitors can participate in the match for $5.  Additional attempts are allowed at a cost of $5 per reshoot.  During your reshoot you will be allowed 2 more attempts to score the top time. Attendees (sworn LEOs only) will also be allowed to shoot this side match at a cost of $5 per run.
